What should you bring with you for your tax appointment?


Use the following list, which includes most common information, in preparing your tax return correctly. As tax situations vary by each person’s situation you may not need all of these items or some additional information may be necessary. If in doubt please bring it!

General Information

  Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents

  Year of Birth for you, your spouse and dependents

  Prior year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)

  Last year’s tax return

Income Information

  Form W-2's for Wages, Salaries and Tips

  Interest Income Statements: Forms 1099-INT & 1099-OID

  Dividend Income Statements: Forms 1099-DIV

  Unemployment Compensation Received: Form 1099-G

  Miscellaneous Income: Form 1099-MISC

  Retirement Income: Form 1099-R

  Gambling winnings and losses (losses are deductible only to the extent of winnings)

  Social Security & Railroad Retirement Income

  Social Security Benefits: Form SSA-1099

  Business Income and Expenses

Credits

  Educational expenses for you, your spouse

  Dependents College tuition and fees expenses

  Child Care expenses for each dependent

  Child Care Provider address & Federal ID Number/SSN

  Adoption expense information

  Retirement savings contributions

Payments

  Estimated payments made with ES vouchers

  Amounts paid with extensions filed

  Last years tax refund overpayment applied to this years taxes

 

 

 

 

Deduction Expenses

  IRA Contributions

  Student loan interest paid

  Moving expenses

If itemizing deductions:

  Medical expenses paid if over 7.5% of your income

  Miles traveled for medical purposes

  Home mortgage interest: Form 1098

  Real estate and personal taxes paid

  States taxes paid with last years tax return

  Un-reimbursed employee job expenses

  Charitable contributions

  Miles traveled while performing qualified charity work

  Automobile excise tax payments

  Job searching expenses
